The goal of this project was to take complex technical content and transform it into a five minute customer facing presentation. It needed to be accurate, but easy to understand. After familiarizing myself with Engineering Department's technical manual, and consulting with a few SMEs, I began visualizing how its story would be told. For a topic this complex, animation was essential.
Referencing a number of standard Kronos graphics, and creating a few new graphics, I began developing the storyboard; referring back to the manual when necessary. At this point, there was still no script, only visual storytelling.
With the storyboard done, it was formatted into a Word document. At this point, the script for the narration could begin being written and carefully synchronized with the action of the animations. Once the script was complete, the Word doc was exported as a PDF and sent to the SMEs for their review.
Once the content had been reviewed, the various assets for the course were produced (graphics and audio files), an assembled in Captivate. As a general principle, I create the assets using external tools (Photoshop, Audacity). This way, the course can be migrated to another platform if necessary.

This is the introductory animation for an OSPF course done for Nortel Networks. I designed it using a retro 1950's graphic look. Many of our students had expressed boredom with the usual PowerPoint look, so this was an attempt at engaging them with a more playful look. This intro animation was followed by static images and narration. Very little text was used, facilitating student comprehension of the content and minimizing ESL and localization issues.
This is a static image assembled from the animation graphics library. If necessary, it could have been easily animated. In conjunction with a well written narration, it can provide a quick understanding of a complex concept.

This is an interactive animation which demonstrates to the customer how the Crossbeam X-80 platform can quickly scale its throughput. Although the concept is somewhat simple, this format brings an entertainment value that engages the customer. It was developed in Flash, which is, unfortunately, no longer available.
